The functional objective for the crankshaft position sensor is to determine the position and/or rotational speed ( RPM) of the crank. Engine Control Units use the information transmitted by the sensor to control parameters such as ignition timing and fuel injection timing. In a diesel, the sensor will control the fuel injection.
The Haynes manual doesn't say much other than the A/C compressor might have to be replaced. This is a 2000 Expedition. Remove belt. Remove bolts on A/C compressor, and let it drop down a bit. Remove single bolt on crank sensor, and remove. Reverse order to button it up. No need to remove any A/C lines, etc. Thanks JL. That doesn't sound bad at all. 2000StreetRod said: The crankshaft position (CKP) sensor is mounted on the engine front timing cover. It senses the teeth on the trigger wheel attached to the harmonic dampener. Because of being located near the bottom of the engine compartment it is exposed to road grime and water, etc. and the electrical contacts may get corroded. On the other hand, your vehicle might simply refuse to start at all. 2. Engine Vibration Issues. Another sign that your crankshaft sensor might be faulty is an engine vibrating problem. Any such issue could signal a cylinder misfiring problem stemming from a failing crankshaft position sensor. 3. The ECM/PCM can monitor cam position using these signals – note the missing tooth on the crank sensor pattern – using that missing tooth and the cam sensor signals, the ECM/PCM can determine (and adjust) camshaft indexing. If one of the cam sensor signals flatlines or becomes “scratchy,” a code will be set. Products Mentioned in this Guide

The crankshaft position sensor, on your 3.0L Mitsubishi Montero, is a three wire Hall Effect type sensor that can be easily tested with a multimeter. Below are the circuit descriptions that you'll need in the tests presented in this tutorial: Circuit labeled 1 : Ground Circuit (provided by PCM). Circuit labeled 2 :

The Ford Territory utilizes a crankshaft position sensor in order to regulate the engine timing. This sensor uses a reluctor to gauge the position of the crank. When the Territory's ECM determines that there is an issue with the signal coming from this sensor, it'll throw the P0335 trouble code. P0335 Symptoms: Ford Territory

Posted May 3, 2016. My wife owns a relatively low mileage Focus Mk2 (68k miles) with Auto gearbox. At the weekend she returned from a shopping trip and advised me "the engine is making a ticking noise". When I lifted the bonnet and asked her to start it, I was horrified to hear a noise like a ball 31 posts · Joined 2016. #1 · Jan 23, 2017. It's been a little over 2 months since I've had my 2017 FE SE 1.5L. Engine light came on a week or so ago. Dropped it off this morning to get checked, and they said they need to replace the Crank Sensor. It's covered under warranty, but it is a little annoying to be having parts replaced already! 1. Locate the crankcase pressure sensor. It is usually located near the valve cover on the top of the engine. 2. Use the socket wrench set to unscrew the crankcase pressure sensor and remove it. 3. Use a flat-head screwdriver to clean any dirt or debris from the area around the crankcase pressure sensor. 4.
