US E36 M3, E36/E46 328, and 330 all have the same gearbox iirc. The 323/325 box should theoretically fit fine, but you'd need a new driveshaft (4-bolt instead of 6) and the gearboxes themselves aren't rated to handle the extra torque. The 330i ZHP option was introduced partway through the 2003 model year. Differences (for 2004 models): -- Slightly modified engine (rated 235 hp instead of 225) -- Different exhuast.
One of the major differences in maintenance is that M3's require valve adjustments. If you are concerned about cash, don't get an e46; BMW parts are generally more expensive than Japanese or American brands. And most non-bmw shops love to stick it to you when you bring a BMW for service.
The driveshaft is not one piece for a reason. The reason is that the space that the driveshaft fits in is dynamic, not static. The distance from the center support to the differential changes, so there is a slip joint so the driveshaft can also change. A one-piece driveshaft is a very common performance upgrade.

The official BMW spare parts site, realoem.com, indicates that for pack performance manual gearbox vehicles, final drive ratio is shortened from 2.93 to 3.07. Not sure this difference reduces each gear top speed to the following values: 1st: 35.4 mph. 2nd: 55.9 mph. 3rd: 80.8 mph. 4th: 105.7 mph. For the front you will be fine as the front offsets are high so can run 235/35/19 which is plenty wide enough for the width of that wheel. What i was thinking is get 4 x front 19"s and put to wider tyres on the back and put those on my 330, prob is the 330 has 255 tyres on the back so i dont want less rubber than that really. No matter how well BMW designed the E46 M3, with worn-out bushings, and tired control arms, you aren't doing the car justice in performing the way it was in
